I’ve been intrigued by MacBooks and macOS since high school, but it wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I got my first MacBook. However, after using it for a month or two, I found myself returning to my Windows 11 PC due to a few key features.
A More Useful File Explorer
File Explorer beats Finder hands down. macOS lacks a navigation bar that shows your location in the storage drive, making it harder to find folders quickly. File Explorer, on the other hand, sorts files automatically by name and always displays folders first. Additionally, moving files is much simpler in File Explorer as it supports the Cut command, unlike Finder, which requires multiple steps to transfer files.
More Snap Layout Options
Windows 11 offers more flexibility with multiple displays, especially useful for ultrawide setups. You can arrange apps easily, and the free Windows PowerToys app allows for even more custom layouts. macOS only supports basic Snap Layouts, requiring third-party apps for better functionality.
Using Multiple Monitors
I use three displays on my laptop, which is easy to set up with Windows 11. In contrast, my M2 MacBook Air only supports two external displays, and upgrading for more requires expensive Apple Silicon. Windows 11 makes managing multiple screens much easier without extra costs.
The Taskbar and How Windows Handles Multitasking
The Windows Taskbar keeps everything I need at the bottom of the screen, offering a clean workspace. macOS places system info in the top right, making the screen feel cluttered. Also, multitasking in macOS can be confusing, as switching between instances of the same app requires more steps than simply pressing alt + tab in Windows.
